Plans and Goals Baby Hospital Ministry: Heart To Heart International Ministries provides basic care for abandoned babies in a large children’s hospital, Spitalul Copii Dr. V. Gomolu, located in Bucharest, Romania. Each year 120 to 150 abandoned babies pass through this hospital, some of them remaining as long as two years. Government hospitals in Romania are notoriously understaffed. These babies fail to thrive because of the minimal care and attention they receive. Some of the babies have been abandoned because they have physical handicaps, others because the families are too poor to care and feed them.
Heart To Heart International Ministries intends to supplement the care provided by the Romanian government to assure that the following necessities are provided for each abandoned baby in this hospital:
- PHYSICAL
- A clean environment.
- Bedding, diapers, ointments, baby care products, clothing, medications, and infant hospital supplies.
- A nutritious variety of foods, particularly needed for older babies.
- Specialized medical care
- SOCIO-EMOTIONAL
- At least one consistent, caring adult in the lives of the babies, providing an opportunity for healthy bonding.
- SPIRITUAL
- Gentle, loving, responsive caregivers who will affirm the babies’ importance as individuals loved by God.
- EDUCATIONAL
- Stimulation from caregivers.
- Mobiles and toys to play with.
- Opportunity to play, crawl and walk in appropriate settings outside of cribs.
- Opportunities to hear gentle music and have books read to them.
Orphanage Ministry: Thousands of children in Romania have been orphaned or abandoned because of political and socio-economic hardship. Heart To Heart is committed to helping approximately 800 abandoned children living in the southeastern region of Romania. These children are between the ages of five and eighteen, live in either government institutions or apartments, and receive varying amounts of adult supervision. Some of the children attend public school, others attend schools for handicapped children. All are in need of additional love and care.

TRANSITION HOUSE: Each year hundreds of young people are turned out of the government orphanages in Romania where they have grown up. Most have been poorly prepared for life outside the orphanage system. Heart To Heart International Ministries recognized the critical need for transitional training for these young people and purchased a large home in the village of Nenciulesti, located in Southern Romania. It has been dubbed the “Transition House.” Young men are invited to apply for an intensive two-year residential program. The five phases of this program are intended to provide the basic education, life skills, job skills, spiritual development and connection with a broader community that the young men will need to live successful independent lives.
Heart To Heart International Ministries is committed to provide care and education to assure that the following are provided for the young men and women *at the Transition House: (*opening fall 2004)

TRADE SCHOOL: Heart To Heart International Ministries’ Trade School will provide job training and opportunities for young people who have grown up in the government orphanages of Romania but have recently been released from the care of the Romanian government. Most of these young people lack the skills to compete for jobs in Romania. The Trade School will consist of seven programs: Bakery, Bicycle Repair, Automobile Repair, Tailoring, Woodworking, Farming, and Hair and Nail Care.
The Trade School is located adjacent to the Transition House in the village of Nenciulesti in southeastern Romania. Building construction for the Trade School was completed in the spring of 2003. Much of the necessary equipment for the Trade School has already been donated. We still need to complete the final set-up, purchase supplies, and hire experienced teachers for the specific trades. The Trade School will train as many as 50 students per year, giving them the job skills they need to work and live independently.
