Our History

The National Summit for Children at Risk, held in Atlanta, Georgia on November 9-11, 2000, was the conference that brought the vision for The CoMission for Children at Risk to reality. At the event, which launched the network, God assembled over 200 individuals representing 120 mission organizations and churches that were actively providing support to orphans and street children. Since then these organizations have taken steps toward greater collaboration.

In 2004, the CoMission brought people and organizations together again with the 2004 National Summit for Children at Risk, also held in Atlanta.  Numerous people attended the conference for meaningful days of sharing together and learning about orphans.  The conference focused on street children, post-orphanage transition, and HIV/AIDS.

In 2006, from November 10-14, the CoMission partnered with the Russian National Network and others to put on the Eastern European Summit for Children at Risk in Moscow and Vladimir, Russia.

Dr. Ron L. Braund of Mission Specialties, Inc. is Chairman of The CoMission for Children at Risk, Karmen Friesen is the Director, Cristi Hillis serves as the Project Coordinator.
